Hanuman Chalisa in English with Meaning

(Opening Verse)
Shri Guru Charan Saroj Raj, Nij Manu Mukur Sudhari,
Varanau Raghuvar Vimal Jasu, Jo dayaku Phal Chari.

With the dust of Guru’s Lotus feet, I clean the mirror of my mind,
And then, the pure and divine glory of Lord Rama I find.

(Chorus)
Budhi heen Tanu Janike, Sumirow Pavan Kumar,
Bal Buddhi Vidya Dehu Mohi, Harahu Kalesh Vikaar.

Knowing myself to be ignorant, I call upon Hanuman,
The son of Wind, please grant me wisdom, strength, and knowledge.

(Couplet 1)
Jai Hanuman Gyan Gun Sagar, Jai Kapis Tihun Lok Ujagar,
Ramdoot Atulit Bal Dhamaa, Anjani Putra Pavan Sut Naamaa.

Hail Hanuman, the ocean of wisdom and virtues, hail the chief among the monkeys,
The divine messenger of Lord Rama, the incomparable repository of strength, and the beloved son of Anjana.

(Couplet 2)
Mahavir Vikram Bajrangi, Kumati Nivaar Sumati Ke Sangi,
Kanchan Varan Viraj Subesa, Kanan Kundal Kunchit Kesa.

The brave and powerful one, with a body as strong as the diamond,
The remover of evil thoughts, the companion of the virtuous, whose golden-hued body is adorned with beautiful garments and earrings.

(Couplet 3)
Haath Vajra Aur Dhvaja Biraje, Kaandhe Moonj Janeu Saaje,
Sankar Suvan Kesari Nandan, Tej Pratap Maha Jag Vandan.

With the thunderbolt in hand and a flag on the shoulder,
Wearing sacred thread made of Munja grass, He is the son of Kesari, the lion of the Sankar clan, whose radiance is revered by the whole
world.

(Couplet 4)
Vidyavaan Guni Ati Chatur, Ram Kaj Karibe Ko Aatur,
Prabhu Charitra Sunibe Ko Rasiya, Ram Lakhan Sita Man Basiya.

Endowed with knowledge, virtues, and extreme intelligence,
Always eager to serve Lord Rama, relishing the glories of the Lord, residing in the hearts of Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita.

(Couplet 5)
Sukshma Roop Dhari Siyahi Dikhava, Vikat Roop Dhari Lanka Jarava,
Bhima Roop Dhari Asur Sanghare, Ramachandra Ke Kaaj Samvare.

Assuming a tiny form, he appeared before Sita, displaying a colossal form, he burnt Lanka,
Taking a fearsome form, he destroyed the demons, accomplishing the tasks of Lord Rama.

(Couplet 6)
Laye Sanjivan Lakhan Jiyaye, Shri Raghuvir Harashi Ura Laye,
Raghupati Kinhi Bahut Badaai, Tum Mama Priya Bharatahi Sam Bhai.

Bringing the Sanjivani herb, he revived Lakshmana and Raghuvira (Rama) joyfully embraced him,
Raghupati (Rama) praised him greatly, saying, “You are as dear to me as my brother Bharata.”

(Couplet 7)
Sahas Badan Tumharo Jas Gaave, Asa Kahi Shripati Kanth Lagaave,
Sanakaadik Brahmadi Muneesa, Narad Sarad Sahit Aheesa.

The thousand-headed serpent, Adisesha, sings your glories, and Rama, placing His arm around you,
Sages like Sanaka, Brahma, and the great saints, Narada and Saraswati, all praise you incessantly.

(Couplet 8)
Yam Kuber Digpaal Jahan Te, Kavi Kobid Kahi Sake Kahan Te,
Tum Upkar Sugreevahin Keenha, Ram Milaye Rajpad Deenha.

Even Yamraj (the God of Death), Kuber, and the guardians of the four directions cannot describe your glories adequately,
You extended your help to Sugriva, and through your efforts, Rama was reunited with his kingdom.

(Couplet 9)
Tumharo Mantro Bibhishan Maana, Lankeshwar Bhaye Sab Jag Jaana,
Jug Sahastra Jojan Par Bhanu, Leelyo Taahi Madhur Phal Jaanu.

Bibhishana accepted your counsel, and thus, he became the ruler of Lanka, known to all,
You swallowed the sun, situated thousands of Yojanas away, thinking it to be a sweet fruit.

(Couplet 10)
Prabhu Mudrika Meli Mukh Maahi, Jaladhi Langhi Gaye Acharaj Naahi,
Durgam Kaj Jagat Ke Jete, Sugam Anugraha Tumhare Tete.

Carrying Lord Rama’s ring in your mouth, you crossed the ocean effortlessly, which was beyond anyone’s imagination,
You accomplished seemingly insurmountable tasks in the world, and all the comforts are bestowed through your grace.

(Couplet 11)
Ram Duaare Tum Rakhvare, Hoat Na Aagya Binu Paisare,
Sab Sukh Lahaye Tumhari Sarna, Tum Rakshak Kaahu Ko Darna.

You are the guardian of Lord Rama’s abode, and no one can enter without your permission,
Taking refuge in you brings all happiness, and under your protection, no one needs to fear.

(Couplet 12)
Aapan Tej Samharo Aapai, Teenon Lok Haank Te Kaanpai,
Bhoot Pisaach Nikat Nahin Aavai, Mahavir Jab Naam Sunavai.

You can subdue your own radiance, and the three worlds tremble in fear of you,
Ghosts and evil spirits cannot come near, and when one chants your name, they become as courageous as you.

(Couplet 13)
Nasei Rog Hare Sab Peera, Japat Nirantar Hanumat Beera,
Sankat Te Hanuman Chudavae, Man Kram Bachan Dhyan Jo Lave.

All diseases and suffering are eradicated by chanting the name of the mighty Hanuman,
In times of distress, Hanuman will come to the rescue, and by meditating on Him with faith and devotion, all endeavors are fulfilled.

(Couplet 14)
Sab Par Ram Tapasvi Raja, Tin Ke Kaj Sakal Tum Saaja,
Aur Manorath Jo Koi Lave, Soi Amit Jivan Phal Pave.

Rama is the ascetic king of all, and you take care of all His tasks,
Whoever seeks fulfillment of desires from you, attains unparalleled and eternal fruit in life.

(Couplet 15)
Charon Jug Partap Tumhara, Hai Parsiddha Jagat Ujiyara,
Sadhu Sant Ke Tum Rakhvare, Asura Nikandan Ram Dulare.

Your glory is acclaimed in all four ages, and the whole world is illuminated by your fame,
You are the protector of sages and saints, and the beloved of Lord Rama, the destroyer of demons.

(Couplet 16)
Ashta Siddhi Nau Nidhi Ke Daata, Asa Bar Din Janki Mata,
Ram Rasayan Tumhare Paasa, Sadaa Raho Raghupati Ke Daasa.

You possess the eight Siddhis and nine Nidhis, and you fulfill all the desires of Mother Janaki (Sita),
The elixir of devotion to Rama is always with you, and you remain eternally dedicated to Lord Raghupati (Rama).

(Couplet 17)
Tumhare Bhajan Ram Ko Paave, Janam Janam Ke Dukh Bisraave,
Anta Kaal Raghubar Pur Jaai, Jahan Janma Hari Bhakta Kahai.

Through devotion to you, one attains Lord Rama’s favor and is liberated from the sorrows of countless lifetimes,
At the end of life, they enter the abode of Lord Rama, and in their subsequent births, they become devotees of Hari (Lord Vishnu).

(Couplet 18)
Aur Devta Chit Na Dharehi, Hanumanth Sei Sarb Sukh Karehi,
Sankat Kate Mite Sab Peera, Jo Sumirai Hanumat Balbeera.

No other deity is as dear to me as Hanuman, who bestows all kinds of happiness,
All troubles are removed and all sufferings vanish for those who meditate upon the mighty Hanuman.

(Couplet 19)
Jai Jai Jai Hanuman Gosai, Kripa Karahu Gurudev Ki Naai,
Jo Sat Baar Paath Kar Koi, Chhootahin Bandi Maha Sukh Hoi.

Hail, hail, hail to you, O Hanuman, the lord of the senses, bestow your grace, O Guru Deva,
Whoever recites this Chalisa one hundred times, becomes free from bondage and experiences immense joy.

(Couplet 20)
Jo Yah Padhe Hanuman Chalisa, Hoye Siddhi Saakhi Gaurisa,
Tulsidas Sada Hari Chera, Keejai Nath Hridaye Mein Dera.

Whoever reads this Hanuman Chalisa, Lord Shiva becomes the witness to its fulfillment,
Tulsidas, the servant of Lord Hari (Rama), prays, “O Lord, make your abode in my heart.”


Pavan Tanay Sankat Haran, Mangal Murti Roop,
Ram Lakhan Sita Sahit, Hriday Basahu Sur Bhoop.

O Hanuman, the son of the wind, the remover of all troubles, and the embodiment of auspiciousness,
With Lord Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita, reside in my heart, O King of the Devas (celestial beings).
